Health authorities in the Buram locality of South Darfur have reported the deaths of 20 children and approximately 200 new infections following a measles outbreak in the region.
Local health officials confirmed that medical teams, including physicians and health promotion specialists, have begun emergency operations in affected neighborhoods. These efforts focus on providing direct medical care and educating residents on prevention methods to curb the spread.
The Health Promotion Department issued a stark warning, stating that any delay in urgent intervention will lead to a spike in infection rates and further fatalities, particularly among children and vulnerable groups.
According to a report by the South Darfur Ministry of Health’s Emergency Department, the state recorded a total of 2,209 measles cases and 19 deaths throughout 2025.
The report highlighted that the majority of these cases were concentrated in Nyala North, Nyala County, and East Jebel Neighborhood. Currently, the measles epidemic has spread to 12 out of the 21 localities across South Darfur state.
