OCHA: Escalating Violence Restricts Food and Healthcare Access in South Kordofan

Mashawir – News Desk

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that escalating violence and multi-front fighting in Sudan’s Kordofan region are severely restricting access to food and healthcare. A blockade isolating the cities of Kadugli and Dilling in South Kordofan has further cut off residents from farms and markets, endangering civilian lives and triggering new waves of displacement.

OCHA spokesperson Jens Laerke issued an urgent call for an immediate cessation of hostilities. He urged all parties to uphold international humanitarian law, facilitate aid delivery across conflict lines, and protect both civilians and aid workers. Laerke emphasized the need for concrete steps toward achieving a lasting peace in Sudan.

According to OCHA, the number of displaced persons in South Kordofan has risen sharply in recent days. Approximately 1,000 people have fled Al-Quz, Kadugli, and Al-Bardab village, while nearly 2,000 others escaped Um Dam Haj Ahmed in North Kordofan over the past week.

The latest UN data indicates that 9.3 million Sudanese remain internally displaced due to the ongoing war, with an additional 4.3 million seeking refuge across borders. Nationwide, more than 21 million people are currently facing acute food insecurity.
