The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sudan has described the situation in the Darfur and Kordofan regions as “catastrophic.” Approximately 170,000 displaced people and families from the city of El Fasher and across Kordofan are in need of urgent support.
In a post on Facebook, the UNHCR announced that it is continuing to provide support to those fleeing, alongside other partners, despite the significant challenges at hand.
Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated that its field monitoring teams are closely observing the developments of the tense and volatile situation in South Kordofan State.
The IOM estimated that 395 people have been displaced from the cities of Kadugli and Dilling over the past two days. These individuals headed toward areas in White Nile State in the south of the country due to the worsening security conditions.
Since the early months of the war, the two aforementioned cities have been living under a suffocating and continuous siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM). This, combined with artillery shelling and repeated drone attacks, has exacerbated the deteriorating humanitarian situation and famine.
