The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) stated that more than 650 children have been separated from their families since the escalation of violence in the city of El Fasher in late October 2025.
Attacks on the capital of North Darfur State have caused thousands of families to flee toward Tawila locality and other areas in the region.
The organization noted that the escalation of violence contributed to many children fleeing in chaotic conditions accompanied by strangers, while others arrived entirely alone.
UNICEF explained that, thanks to its efforts and those of its partners, it has been able to safely reunite 280 children with their families, while approximately 400 children are currently staying with foster families in the Tawila area, where they receive care and protection along with psychosocial support.
