Rising Violation Rates in West Kordofan Force Thousands to Displace

Mashaweer – Report by Mohamed Fadlallah Khalil

Trapped residents in West Kordofan State, currently under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), are living through tragic conditions of violence and terror. This is due to escalating violations and heinous crimes committed by these forces against civilians, alongside an increase in looting, robbery, and kidnappings in villages. Many citizens have lost their money, crop reserves, and consumer goods; all vehicles have been looted, and the number of missing persons rises daily amid a total communications blackout.

As a result of these conditions, the areas of Al-Khuwai, Umm Samima, and Ayal Bakheet are witnessing a displacement movement of hundreds of families. This exodus is driven by deteriorating humanitarian and security situations resulting from escalating violence, the targeting of civilians, and large-scale retaliatory acts. Those fleeing the hell of fighting and grave violations have chosen the city of El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan and the White Nile region as their destinations.

Looting and Suffering

Citizen Abdullah Babiker told Mashaweer that “RSF forces looted the property of Al-Khuwai residents, specifically homes. Soldiers remove all electrical appliances, televisions and refrigerators, package them, and then transport them to the Darfur states.”

He added, “Most looting operations in neighborhoods, and even in banks and institutions, began with the RSF initiating the break-ins and assaults. Gangs would then follow to finish off whatever scraps remained. Consequently, the security situation has become extremely dire and no longer encourages residents to stay.”

Babiker explained that residents of cities and villages in West Kordofan are enduring difficult days amid harsh humanitarian conditions, especially in Al-Khuwai, Ayal Bakheet, and Umm Samima. They have tasted the bitterness of starvation and the severest forms of violations, in addition to being unable to move or travel for fear of being killed without cause. This occurs amid the widespread presence of RSF soldiers who commit crimes against citizens without regard for women, children, or the elderly.

Tragedies and Displacement

In turn, Salem Idris described the humanitarian, security, and health situation in the city of El Nahud as extremely complex. The market and citizens’ savings have been looted, and public and private property destroyed. He highlighted the depth of the humanitarian disaster, characterized by an acute lack of food, drinking water, and medical care.

Speaking to Mashaweer, he noted that “the environment inside En Nahud has become conducive to the spread of many diseases amid a major shortage of food and medicine.” He appealed to the international community and all international organizations to pay attention to this tragedy, which threatens the city’s residents with certain death unless efforts are combined to bring in aid or allow for the evacuation of trapped residents.

Idris pointed out that “the RSF carried out looting and robbery operations, in addition to terrorizing residents in broad daylight and attacking homes at gunpoint to intimidate citizens into revealing the location of their valuables.” He continued, “The enormity of the violations and terrifying crimes has contributed to increasing cases of displacement to El Obeid, as well as the cities of Kosti and Rabak in the White Nile region.”

Terror and Kidnapping

Furthermore, Dar Hamar Emergency Room stated that the RSF carried out extensive looting and terror operations in the Ayal Bakheet area of Al-Khuwai locality.

According to the Emergency Room, the group looted citizens’ property, commercial warehouses, and several vehicles before kidnapping a merchant and demanding a massive ransom for his release. This occurred amidst a state of panic and displacement due to repeated attacks.

The Emergency Room warned that the continuation of these violations threatens security and stability in the state, calling on local authorities and regular forces to intervene urgently to secure citizens and the rural areas located between Al-Mazroub and Ayal Bakheet.
