Landing of the first United Nations aircraft at Khartoum International Airport

Khartoum - Mashaweer

The first United Nations flight landed at Khartoum Airport on Thursday, arriving from the city of Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast in the east of the country. This comes after a disruption that lasted since the outbreak of the war in Sudan nearly three years ago.

The landing of the UN plane follows the landing of the first passenger aircraft at Khartoum Airport earlier this February.

The plane carried Denise Brown, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, along with a number of UN staff, to resume their relief work following the stabilization of the security situation in the capital.

In April 2023, the United Nations had temporarily moved its staff from Khartoum to the city of Port Sudan, which served as a temporary capital.

Later, the United Nations moved its staff to countries neighboring Sudan to continue their work remotely to ensure their safety.
