Feminist demonstrations in Atbara protesting a decision to ban them from working

Atbara - Mashaweer

The city of Atbara witnessed feminist protests today (Sunday) in front of the local headquarters, where a large number of women gathered and held a stand-in accompanied by a demonstration and escalatory actions that included blocking the road between the Atbara locality and the Sudani company.

The women set up barricades and burned car tires at the entrance to the local government headquarters.

The protesters demanded to be allowed to practice tea selling during Ramadan nights, after local authorities banned this activity in markets and streets during the evening period.

Other women pointed out that they were prevented from receiving Ramadan food baskets despite previous promises to deliver them after providing national identification numbers, which prompted them to gather in front of the local headquarters and carry out the protest.
