IOM: One Million Displaced in North Darfur Within a Year

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a United Nations agency, reported that more than 100 additional families have been displaced from El Fasher in recent days.

In a statement, the IOM said that between April 27 and 30, 1,184 families fled from El Fasher and the Abu Shouk IDP camp due to escalating insecurity. The organization noted that some of these families moved to locations within El Fasher locality, while others were displaced to the Tawila area.

On April 27, the IOM reported that 81,000 families—amounting to 406,000 individuals—fled from Zamzam camp, located 12 kilometers southwest of El Fasher. This figure represents 81% of the previously displaced families in the camp as of March 12, 2025.

The mass exodus from Zamzam camp has brought the total number of displaced people in North Darfur to over one million within just one year. Armed clashes in various parts of the state have led to the displacement of 605,000 people between April 2024 and January 31, 2025.
