Brussels Hosts Senior Mediators to Revive Peace Prospects in Sudan
Brussels – Mashawir

The fourth meeting of the Advisory Group on Coordinating Peace Initiatives in Sudan kicked off today in the Belgian capital, Brussels, with high-level attendance from representatives of regional and international organizations, as well as influential countries involved in the Sudanese conflict. The meeting comes at a time when the political and military landscape in Sudan is witnessing an unprecedented escalation.
Participants in the meeting include the United Nations, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union, and the League of Arab States, along with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America. The gathering is part of joint efforts to revive the political process and end the war that has been ongoing since April 2023.
This meeting follows a series of similar gatherings, the most recent of which was held in Mauritania last December. It is also taking place one day before the anticipated United Nations Security Council session on Sudan, during which the UN Special Envoy, Ramtane Lamamra, is scheduled to present an official briefing on the ongoing efforts to launch a credible peace process.
Meanwhile, the civilian democratic coalition of revolutionary forces, known as the “Samood” Alliance and led by former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, announced that it had sent an official letter to the advisory group in Brussels. The letter includes practical proposals for addressing the humanitarian crisis and building a comprehensive and sustainable peace process in Sudan.
