IOM: Thousands Displaced from Kordofan Due to Insecurity

Follow-up – Mashaweer

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that 3,260 families have been displaced from several villages in Bara locality due to growing insecurity.

In a statement, the IOM said that the displaced families fled to areas including Sheikan and Umm Dam Hajj Ahmed in North Kordofan, Al-Abbasiya in South Kordofan, Tandaltī and Kosti in White Nile State, and Omdurman in Khartoum State.

The mass displacement was triggered by attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on villages around the city of Bara in North Kordofan, following the Sudanese army’s advance toward the city.

The RSF reportedly fears that if the army reaches Bara, it could then spread into the Sudri and Umm Badr areas, potentially enabling it to reach Mellit in North Darfur as part of a broader effort to break the siege on Al-Fashir, after a failed attempt to reach it through Al-Khuwei in West Kordofan.
