Sennar State Launches Campaign to Contain Cholera Ahead of the Rainy Season

Monitoring – Mashawir

The Ministry of Health in Sennar State has announced the launch of a large-scale vaccination campaign against cholera aimed at containing the outbreak ahead of the upcoming rainy season.

Sennar has witnessed a rise in cholera cases in recent days, mainly due to a lack of access to clean drinking water following the shutdown of water stations caused by power outages across the state.

The ministry declared a full mobilization of all health personnel to participate in the vaccination campaigns targeting towns and villages throughout the state. It also noted a recent decline in cases following the implementation of a comprehensive emergency health plan.

Most Sudanese states — especially the capital, Khartoum — have seen a wide-scale cholera outbreak since late May, with daily cases reaching around 1,000. According to OCHA, the total number of cholera infections recorded across Sudan so far this year has reached 32,000.
