Diplomatic sources have revealed disagreements among the countries participating in the Washington-based Quadrilateral Committee meetings over the inclusion of Sudanese parties.
Last Tuesday, U.S. Presidential Adviser for African Affairs, Masad Boulos, announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is preparing to hold an imminent meeting in Washington to discuss the war in Sudan, bringing together the foreign ministers of the Quadrilateral group, which includes Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and the United States.
Boulos stated, in comments reported by Al Sharq news channel, that about three weeks ago, ambassadors from the Quadrilateral countries were invited to meet with Rubio to discuss the Sudanese crisis.
Sources indicated that Cairo’s insistence on including representatives from the Sudanese army has led to delays in convening the meeting.
Washington opposes the participation of military leaders, particularly after imposing sanctions on several of them.
