Food Crisis Doubles the Suffering of El Fasher Residents

Reports – Mashawir

The humanitarian situation in El Fasher has severely worsened, with food prices skyrocketing, particularly millet, the staple food for the city’s residents, who have been under siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since May 2024.

The health situation in the city is also dire, as the two functioning hospitals suffer from a severe shortage of essential supplies.

Last month, the North Darfur government announced an imminent airdrop of food and medicine to the city; however, this lifesaving operation has yet to be carried out.

Residents reported that “most of El Fasher’s population has left due to the intensification of fighting, as residential buildings can no longer withstand artillery shelling and are no longer safe shelters. Those who remain face extremely difficult humanitarian conditions due to the lack of food and the constant danger of the ongoing clashes between the warring parties.”
