Sudanese Teachers’ Committee Rejects Attempts by Labor Registrar to Revive Defunct Regime Unions

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee has rejected the decisions of the Labor Organizations Registrar, which it says aim to breathe life back into the defunct National Congress Party (NCP) unions. According to the committee, this move serves the interests of the coup authorities, who have aligned themselves with NCP elements and the Islamic Movement to create a “distorted offspring” in a desperate attempt to block workers from building their own independent and free unions.

In a statement, the committee emphasized:

> “We categorically reject any administrative interference in trade union affairs and reaffirm workers’ inherent right, in accordance with Convention 87, to establish their own unions without imposition from anyone, whoever they may be.”

The Teachers’ Committee also urged all workers, and teachers in particular, to firmly resist any attempts to hijack their voice, warning that such efforts seek to confiscate their rights by exploiting the wartime environment, which provides fertile ground for cheap blackmail and false flattery.
