The Hope and Friendship Organization for Development, Tawila office in North Darfur State, organized a recreational drawing session for children at the Rwanda Multipurpose Center as part of a project to protect displaced people and refugees. The project is implemented in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and supported by the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
The session aimed to provide children with a safe and recreational space and encourage them to express their feelings and thoughts through drawing, while also promoting positive interaction and creative skills in ways that contribute to their psychological and social well-being.
Psychological researcher Kawthar Bakheit told Mashaweer that “artistic and recreational activities provide children with a safe space to express their feelings indirectly, particularly amid the difficult circumstances faced by children affected by displacement.”
She stressed the importance of continuing activities that combine recreation, creative expression, and psychosocial support, describing them as an important part of creating a safer and more supportive environment for children affected by war and displacement.
