Sudanese Professionals’ Coordination: Dissolution of Labor Unions Is a Clear Violation of the Constitution
Reports – Mashawir

The Sudanese Professionals’ and Trade Unions Coordination Committee has firmly rejected what it described as a “dangerous step” taken by the government in Port Sudan—issuing an official certificate dissolving the executive office of the Sudan General Federation of Trade Unions, whose term had expired, and forming a preparatory committee composed of the same previous members without any legal basis or union mandate.
In a statement, the Coordination Committee said, “This step reflects a systematic attempt to dominate the labor movement, seize workers’ funds and assets, and use them to finance the war effort instead of directing them toward improving workers’ conditions amid economic collapse and deteriorating working and living standards.”
The statement affirmed that the dissolution order was issued directly by the Registrar General of Labor Organizations, in what it described as “a clear overreach of his powers” and a flagrant violation of the constitution, national laws, and international agreements—most notably ILO Convention No. 87 on freedom of association, which is part of Sudan’s legal framework under the transitional constitutional document.
