Humanitarian Crisis Worsens in El Fasher Amid Shortages of Food and Medicine

Reports – Mashawir

The humanitarian situation in El Fasher has reached a critical and tragic stage due to the ongoing war in the country, now in its 27th month. Essential goods have vanished from shops, including sugar, onions, rice, salt, and lentils, while stocks of millet, sorghum, and life-saving medicines are rapidly dwindling.

According to the North Darfur Emergency Coordination Council, the city is facing an almost complete shortage of essential food supplies, with deficits reaching up to 88%.

The council stated that El Fasher’s crisis has moved beyond the warning stage into a full-scale humanitarian disaster.

In a statement, the council emphasized that children and women are the most vulnerable, suffering from extreme hunger, with scenes of emaciation and severe malnutrition now common in camps and host communities.

The statement continued: “Tragically, we have witnessed several deaths due to hunger and malnutrition—an irreparable loss that must not be ignored. The situation in El Fasher demands urgent, round-the-clock intervention, as every delay means more suffering and the loss of innocent lives.”

The council held relevant authorities and humanitarian organizations morally and ethically responsible for an immediate response, urging concrete measures to save as many lives as possible before it is too late.
