Mashawir – Follow-ups

The cholera outbreak continues to spread alarmingly into new areas of Darfur, particularly in the camps of Tawila, Jebel Marra, Nyala, Zalingei, and Shaeria locality in the Khazan Jadid area, with a steady increase in the number of daily cases recorded in displacement centers, according to the Darfur General Coordination for the Displaced.

The latest update from the Coordination reported that since the outbreak began, there have been a total of 6,119 infections and 260 deaths.

Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) had earlier announced that at least 40 people died from cholera in Darfur within a single week, amid the disease’s widespread transmission across the country.

The organization noted that its medical teams had treated more than 2,300 patients in the region, pointing out that Sudan is now facing the worst cholera outbreak the country has seen in years.
