WFP: Sudan Faces Risk of Catastrophic Hunger

Mashawir – Reports

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned of the alarming situation in Sudan, stating that the country is facing the risk of catastrophic hunger. It highlighted that El-Fasher in North Darfur, along with parts of South Kordofan (Dilling and Kadugli), are among the most affected areas, where besieged populations are experiencing severe levels of food insecurity and are in urgent need of regular humanitarian assistance.

The agency stressed that it requires approximately $645 million to sustain its operations over the next six months, in order to avert famine and support millions in need.

WFP also complained that security restrictions in the country are obstructing the movement of its relief convoys, making its operations more costly and complex.

So far, the organization has not received confirmation from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) regarding safe passage for the convoys.
