Sudanese Consultations in Addis Ababa Under African Mediation to End the War and Establish Peace

Reports – Mashawir

The African Union is arranging direct meetings between Sudanese political forces on October 6 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, as part of the consultative sessions organized by the High-Level Panel on Sudan chaired by Mohamed Ibn Chambas.

The AU extended invitations to political forces supporting the army and a military solution, as well as to the Revolutionary Democratic Civil Forces Alliance “Sumood” (Steadfastness), which opposes the war, to participate in the upcoming meetings.

The Civil Democratic Forces Coordination “Taqaddum” dissolved itself on February 10, following internal disputes over declaring a parallel government in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). It also refused to join the Founding Sudanese Alliance “Ta’sis” (Foundation).

Opponents of the parallel government later announced the formation of the Revolutionary Democratic Civil Forces Alliance “Sumood”, which presented a political roadmap to end the war. The proposal includes multiple tracks: a ceasefire, radical reform of military institutions, transitional justice, and a 10-year civilian transitional period—half of it foundational, and the other half under an elected government.
