Army Repels Drone Attacks Targeting Khartoum Airport for the Second Day in a Row

Mashawir – Agencies

A military source reported that drones belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted Khartoum Airport on Wednesday, marking the second consecutive day of such attacks.

The source, who spoke to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said:

> “The terrorist militia’s drones targeted Khartoum Airport again early this morning, and our air defenses responded to the attack.”

The Sudanese army, which controls Khartoum, has been locked in a bloody conflict with the RSF since April 2023.

The airport had been scheduled to reopen for domestic flights on Wednesday — for the first time in over two years of war — but it remains unclear whether that will still be possible following the latest strikes.

On Tuesday, witnesses told AFP they heard the buzz of drones over central and southern Khartoum, as well as explosions near the airport in the early morning hours.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, and no casualties have been reported, though the RSF has repeatedly been accused in recent months of using drones to target both military and civilian infrastructure.

The ongoing war has killed tens of thousands, displaced 12 million people, and triggered what the United Nations describes as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
