Red Cross: Pattern of Violence Targeting Humanitarian Workers in Sudan

Agencies – Mashawir

The Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Pierre Krähenbühl, on Friday, condemned the escalating violence against humanitarian workers, particularly in Gaza and Sudan, where five volunteers were killed this week.

In an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Bahrain, Krähenbühl said, “Violence against humanitarian workers in Sudan, Gaza, and elsewhere has become a profoundly tragic pattern.”

Recent reports have also indicated that more than 460 people were killed at a hospital in El Fasher, western Sudan, a city that fell under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) late last week.

The RSF’s takeover of El Fasher has raised concerns among experts about a potential new partition of Sudan and a repetition of the massacres that occurred in the Darfur region in the early 2000s.
