The Sudanese Group for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms and the Darfur Bar Association expressed their concern over the arrest of activist Munib Abdelaziz in Dongola, northern Sudan, due to his celebration of the anniversary of the December Revolution and his chanting of its slogans.

In a joint statement, the Sudanese Group for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms and the Darfur Bar Association said: “Both organizations are continuing their efforts to determine the fate of the detained young man, Munib Abdelaziz, who was arrested while celebrating the anniversary of the glorious December 19 Revolution in the city of Dongola and chanting its slogans of ‘Freedom, Peace, and Justice.’”

The statement added that news of Munib’s arrest spread across media platforms, along with the opening of a criminal case against him under Articles 26, 50, 51, and 52 of the 1991 Criminal Act.

It also pointed out that the two organizations have no confirmed information regarding the detained activist, as reports have been conflicting—at times stating that he is undergoing legal procedures, and at other times claiming that he has been released. Other reports, however, deny his release and confirm that he remains in detention under conditions that raise fears for his life, including allegations that he has been subjected to torture and severe beating.
