One person was killed and others were injured in a drone attack on a humanitarian convoy belonging to the World Food Programme (WFP) in North Kordofan, Sudan, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Denise Brown, stated: “I am deeply concerned about a drone attack on World Food Programme trucks in North Kordofan.”
She added that the trucks were traveling from Kosti, “carrying life-saving food assistance for displaced families near El Obeid,” the capital of North Kordofan State, resulting in “the death of at least one person and the injury of many others.”
The “Emergency Lawyers” group, which documents war violations in Sudan, confirmed the attack on the WFP convoy, accusing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying it out.
For its part, the Sudanese government condemned the targeting of WFP convoys in North Kordofan by the RSF.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “targeting aid convoys is a war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law,” calling on the international community to condemn the attack and hold the RSF accountable.
