500 cases of sexual violence documented in Sudan

Geneva - Mashaweer

The United Nations Human Rights Office stated that 500 cases of sexual violence have been documented, some of which resulted in death.

It explained that the bodies of women and girls have been used as a weapon to terrorize communities.

The office noted the documentation of 500 victims of sexual violence, including rape, gang rape, sexual torture, and enslavement, which in some cases led to death.

Human rights organizations believe that the number of sexual violence cases is much higher than reported, given that some communities remain silent about rape crimes due to their close association with honor, as some victims resort to fleeing their families or committing suicide to avoid social stigma.
