US Lab monitors RSF destruction of 41 agricultural communities in North Darfur

North Darfur - Mashaweer

The Humanitarian Research Lab at the Yale School of Public Health has announced, with a high degree of confidence, that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out the deliberate destruction of at least 41 rural agricultural communities north and west of the city of El Fasher in Sudan between March 31 and June 12, 2024.

In a report released today (Tuesday), the lab found that 28 communities (68 percent) show no visible signs of life, while five communities (12 percent) show a low level of activity, and eight communities (20 percent) show activity close to normal.

The lab observed an abnormal increase in plant growth within the villages and a decrease in agricultural activity, indicating a cessation of human activity, grazing, and animal movement.

The report confirmed that these findings are consistent with reports suggesting the possible deliberate creation of famine conditions in El Fasher, North Darfur State. The results also align with a pattern of systematic attacks on resources that civilians rely on for survival.

The report concluded that these attacks occurred within the context of the escalating conflict and the siege of El Fasher that began in April 2024 and ended with alleged mass killings in October 2025.
