Evacuation of Thousands of Displaced People from Kurmuk to Damazin

Blue Nile – Mashawir

Authorities in the Blue Nile region decided on Monday to evacuate around 3,000 displaced people from Kurmuk to the city of Damazin, following a deterioration in security conditions near the temporary camp where they had been staying. Meanwhile, the army repelled an attack on the town of Sali in the southern part of the region.

The Blue Nile region, located in southeastern Sudan, has witnessed a noticeable escalation in military operations since mid-March. A coalition of the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, has launched a wide-scale offensive aimed at advancing deeper into the region.

The alliance recently took control of the strategically significant town of Kurmuk, due to its proximity to the Ethiopian border. These developments come amid accusations directed at Addis Ababa of facilitating the attack.

Military command reaffirmed that the security situation in the region remains under control, stating that all forces are operating in full coordination and cooperation to resolve the conflict and eliminate what it described as “the rebel militia and its mercenaries,” according to the statement.
