The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, said at the Berlin conference that “Sudan has become a laboratory of atrocities, including sieges, the blocking of food, and the use of sexual violence as a weapon.”
He added that “34 million people are in need of assistance, and 13.5 million people — nearly three times the population — have been displaced from their homes.”
He continued, “19 million Sudanese are suffering from food insecurity, and 10 million children are out of school.”
The war in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces broke out in mid-April 2023.
