Residents of displacement camps in the Tawila area are facing difficult humanitarian and living conditions due to severe food shortages.
Ibrahim Suleiman, one of the displaced persons in the area, told Mashawir that people fleeing the horrors of the armed conflict are suffering from worsening living conditions as a result of depleted savings and limited humanitarian assistance.
He added that the food supplies provided by local communities and aid organizations are insufficient to meet the needs of the large number of displaced people.
He explained that there is a daily need for food and healthcare. Although volunteers provide daily meals through charitable community kitchens, these efforts are unable to meet the needs of the growing displaced population.
For her part, displaced resident Salma Abdullah told Mashawir that the food crisis has led to an increase in cases of malnutrition in displacement camps, particularly among children and pregnant women.
She noted that healthcare services provided by aid organizations and volunteers do not cover all displacement centers, in addition to shortages of medicines and medical supplies.
Abdullah appealed to international organizations to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to displaced people in North Darfur State, warning that conditions could deteriorate into a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe if urgent support is not provided.
