Emergency Response Rooms Tackle Drinking Water Crisis in Darfur Displacement Camps

Central Darfur – Mashaweer

The Tour Emergency Response Room in Central Darfur State has completed a project to rehabilitate several water storage tanks in the neighborhoods of Al-Banqar, Al-Nazihin (Displaced Persons), and Jarf Ambarah, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen water security and improve displaced people’s access to safe drinking water.

The initiative aims to enhance water supply services and help meet the basic needs of communities affected by the conflict.

Maysar Al-Ghali, a member of the emergency response room, told Mashaweer that the project was implemented with support from the Coordination Council of Tawila and Jebel Marra Emergency Response Rooms, as part of its continued commitment to supporting humanitarian initiatives and improving essential services in war-affected areas.

He added that the rehabilitation of the water tanks was carried out in response to the growing needs of people who have fled the horrors of war.

Al-Ghali also expressed hope that humanitarian partnerships would continue, helping to ease the suffering of civilians and strengthen the resilience of local communities.

For his part, displaced resident Al-Nour Abdel Karim told Mashaweer that the community had been in urgent need of the intervention because of the severe difficulties residents faced in accessing sufficient water for daily use.

He noted that restoring the water tanks would not only reduce the hardship experienced by local people but also support agricultural activities and provide water for livestock, thereby contributing positively to livelihoods in the area.
