A delegation from the Central Darfur State Emergency Rooms conducted a field visit to sites hosting displaced nomadic families in the Al-Baraka area of the Waranga Administrative Unit to assess the humanitarian and living conditions of residents and identify their most urgent needs in preparation for mobilizing humanitarian assistance.
The field visit and interviews with members of the local community revealed pressing needs, including mobile medical clinics, essential food supplies, emergency shelter materials, and access to safe drinking water, amid worsening humanitarian conditions and the continued suffering of displaced families.
Al-Zein Issa, a member of the Central Darfur Emergency Rooms, told Mashaweer that the visit was carried out in response to the severe humanitarian situation that has forced large numbers of families and pastoralists to flee to the Al-Baraka area. He said the influx has placed significant pressure on already limited services, reduced livelihood opportunities, and strained water and healthcare resources.
He added that the assessment team identified gaps in food and shelter assistance and inspected local water sources to determine their safety and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks. The findings will be compiled into a comprehensive report to help guide humanitarian interventions and mobilize support for affected communities.
Meanwhile, local volunteer activist Al-Nazir Sabah Al-Khair told Mashaweer that the displaced nomadic families are facing extremely difficult humanitarian conditions, particularly due to the limited availability of basic services and rising needs as the rainy season approaches.
He called on humanitarian organizations and donor agencies to urgently provide food assistance, healthcare services, shelter materials, and safe drinking water to ease the suffering of displaced families and prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian and public health situation.
