Around 1,500 displaced families from the Qeisan, Bakori, Deim Saad Al-Bahr, and Fazogli sectors in Sudan’s Blue Nile region are facing severe humanitarian conditions in three shelters, amid shortages of food, shelter materials, medicines, drinking water, and latrines.
The displaced people, who arrived in recent days, are being hosted at Joria Schools in Qeisan neighborhood, Ajib Mangalik in Qanees East, and Abu Dharr Al-Ghafari in Qanees West. While the two centers have received some limited humanitarian assistance, a third center is still awaiting aid.
Volunteer activist in Blue Nile, Saber Hassan, told Mashaweer that “the needs at the shelters exceed the available humanitarian interventions.”
He noted that “the displaced urgently need food, shelter materials, medicines, and drinking water, in addition to latrines to reduce health risks.”
He added that “the Governor of the Blue Nile Region has directed the Humanitarian Aid Commission to intervene urgently and provide the displaced with their basic needs.”
Hassan called on humanitarian organizations to accelerate their response, particularly as the number of newly displaced families continues to increase and harsh conditions persist in areas receiving displaced people.
