United Nations spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that the United Nations and its partners are stepping up efforts to combat cholera in Sudan, following reports of 2,600 cases as of August.
He added that humanitarian actors are expanding efforts to provide clean water in the Kordofan region.
Dujarric explained that a water network in Abu Jubeiha, South Kordofan, has been rehabilitated with support from UNICEF, providing safe water to around 25,000 people daily, including 5,000 internally displaced persons.
He noted that the United Nations and its partners reached 12.3 million people across Sudan between January and July 2026.
Dujarric also appealed for additional funding, noting that the Sudan humanitarian response for this year is only 41 percent funded. The UN has reported that the appeal has received approximately $1.2 billion out of the $2.9 billion required.
He further called on all parties to facilitate the safe, rapid and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to people in need across Sudan.
