Save the Children: 57% of Children in Jebel Marra Suffer from Stunting

Jebel Marra – Mashawir

Save the Children said on Wednesday that a new assessment conducted in central Jebel Marra found that 57 per cent of children suffer from chronic malnutrition, commonly known as stunting.

The assessment found that 15 per cent of the children surveyed suffer from acute malnutrition, equivalent to nearly one in every six children.

It noted that “the assessment findings highlight the growing impact of conflict and the climate phenomenon of El Niño.”

The statement explained that the assessment found that four in every ten children, representing 43 per cent, had suffered from illnesses during the two weeks preceding the survey, amid ongoing conflict, food shortages, and limited access to healthcare, clean water, and sanitation services.

The assessment also found that 69 per cent of the households surveyed rely on unsafe or untreated water.
