Khartoum State Begins Rehabilitation of Electricity and Water Services

Sudan’s Prime Minister, Kamel Idris, is expected to resume his official duties from the capital, Khartoum, during the second week of January 2026.

During her inspection visit to Khartoum State, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Lamia Abdelghafar confirmed that the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers will return to its new headquarters in Khartoum State, in implementation of state directives calling for the return of the federal government to the capital by the end of the current year.

Lamia conducted a field assessment of the arrangements for the relocation of federal ministries to resume their operations from within the historic capital, Khartoum.

She emphasized the state government’s support for completing the rehabilitation of public and essential service systems, including electricity and water, as well as improving the efficiency of road and sanitation networks, in order to accelerate the pace of voluntary return of citizens to the state
