Scott Bessent, U.S. Secretary of the United States Department of the Treasury, stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces must act immediately to commit to a humanitarian ceasefire to end the crisis.
He added that “the situation in Sudan threatens the national security of the United States, as well as regional and international stability.”
He continued, “We call on both parties to agree to an immediate, unconditional humanitarian truce lasting three months.”
Bessent also noted that hundreds of former Colombian soldiers have participated in the fighting since 2024, supported by recruitment networks and intermediary companies.
