Sudan’s Prime Minister: Comprehensive national dialogue planned for next month

Khartoum – Mashawir

Sudanese Prime Minister Kamel Idris said his government is seeking to hold a comprehensive political dialogue by the end of next May, ahead of organizing free and fair elections monitored internationally, regionally, and locally.

In a statement to Al Jazeera, Idris explained that the government is taking steps to create a conducive environment for dialogue among political actors, including facilitating the return of opposition figures from abroad.

He stressed that the anticipated political process will be inclusive and will not exclude anyone.

He added that the dialogue will involve all segments of society—not just political elites—revealing that the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has authorized the renewal of official documents and passports for opposition members abroad in preparation for their return.

Idris noted that the planned dialogue aims to reach broad consensus on key challenges facing the country, including security issues and governance mechanisms.

He did not specify the location where the dialogue will take place, stating that the political process could begin in Khartoum or any other city in the country.
