The “Samoud” Alliance Holds a Dialogue Session to Unify Civilian Efforts

Kampala – Mashawir

A dialogue session was held today (Monday) in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, bringing together Sudanese politicians, journalists, and activists, and calling for strengthening and unifying the efforts of civilian forces.
Participants emphasized that the phase following the Berlin meetings requires broader coordination and a shared vision to support the path toward peace and the restoration of civilian rule in Sudan.
The session, titled “Unity of Civilian Forces: A Post-Berlin Necessity,” was organized by the “Samoud” Alliance – Uganda Office – in coordination with the “Tayba Press” Center, with the participation of politicians, representatives of civil society organizations, and journalists.
Participants stressed the importance of bridging differences among the various civilian groups and working toward building common ground that would lead to ending the war and reaching sustainable solutions to restore the democratic process.
Discussions highlighted that unifying civilian forces represents a strategic option, alongside calls for issuing a unified statement reflecting a comprehensive national vision. They also urged expanding participation to include resistance committees and all components of civil society without exclusion, while maintaining independence and rejecting alignment with any military party.
Regarding the war, participants clarified that peace is not limited to a ceasefire but requires addressing the root causes of the political and economic crisis. They stressed the importance of civil and popular pressure to restore the democratic process, as well as the necessity of incorporating accountability and justice principles into any future settlement.
Speakers pointed to areas of convergence between the demands of civilian forces and the orientations of the international quartet, particularly regarding ending the war, launching a political process, and facilitating humanitarian aid access—highlighting the importance of coordination with the international community.
The session also underscored the role of the United Nations and the European Union in supporting the civilian path, calling for a unified vision that would help facilitate international support. It linked political stability to ensuring the protection of civilians and the flow of humanitarian assistance.
On the challenges side, participants acknowledged internal divisions among civilian forces that affect their effectiveness, noting that re-mobilizing the street requires time and significant organizational effort.
Discussions further stressed that a ceasefire represents a key entry point for any political process, alongside the need to engage in security and military issues, and reaffirmed that justice and accountability remain essential pillars in any transitional phase.
The session concluded that building a unified civilian front—based on coordination and a shared vision—represents the most effective path toward achieving sustainable peace, emphasizing the importance of aligning with international efforts aimed at ending the war and resuming the political and humanitarian processes.
