Sudan: Escalation in Blue Nile and Worsening Humanitarian Crisis

Blue Nile – Mashawir

The clashes that took place in the city of Sali in the Blue Nile region reflect a notable escalation in the intensity of fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), amid repeated attempts to penetrate sensitive strategic positions.

In this context, a military source told Al Jazeera that RSF forces launched an attack on the city—currently under army control—on Tuesday morning.

Al Jazeera correspondent in Damazin, Osama Sayed Ahmed, reported that field developments in the region are accelerating, with several combat fronts remaining active in recent weeks, particularly along the Kurmuk axis and other areas.

Ahmed explained that the city of Sali is one of the most prominent in the region and holds strategic importance due to hosting a military headquarters, making it a frequent target for RSF advance attempts.

According to military sources, the latest attack was carried out in four successive waves involving RSF forces allied with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement. However, the army managed to repel the assault, inflicting casualties and equipment losses on the attackers.

These developments are casting a shadow over the already deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region, as civilian suffering intensifies amid continued displacement and worsening living conditions.

In a report from the city of Roseires, Al Jazeera correspondent Osama Sayed Ahmed documented the humanitarian conditions of displaced people from Qeisan, where scenes reflect growing hardship, forcing thousands of families to adapt to harsh realities imposed by the war.
