Nutrition Centers Serving Thousands in West Darfur Suspend Operations

West Darfur – Mashawir

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revealed that nutrition centers providing services to around 200,000 people in West Darfur State have ceased operations due to lack of funding.
OCHA explained that “growing economic difficulties and funding shortages have worsened the humanitarian situation, as the World Food Programme reported that the cost of the local food basket rose by about 18 percent in April compared to March, driven by increases in sorghum and wheat flour prices.”
The statement noted that “UN partners assisted 9 million people between January and April this year despite insecurity and restrictions on access.”
It further explained that “food rations were delivered in April to 170,000 people in South Darfur, while distributions for May are currently underway.”
