The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate has rejected the 2026 registration form for media centers and online platforms issued by the Ministry of Culture and Information.
The Syndicate argued that the form includes extensive requests for financial, technical, and personal information that go beyond the scope of administrative regulation and constitute a violation of press freedom and personal privacy.
In a statement, the Syndicate said that the form serves as a monitoring tool that threatens the safety of journalists and media institutions, particularly under the current security conditions. It also criticized the inclusion of requirements related to “security screening,” warning that such measures could lead to the exclusion of journalists and media organizations for reasons unrelated to professional standards.
The Syndicate called for the withdrawal of the form in its current format and urged the development of a regulatory framework that protects press freedoms while providing legal guarantees for the protection of personal and professional data. It also emphasized the need to respect citizens’ rights to engage in media work and online publishing without prior security restrictions.
The statement further warned against the use of the requested information in any form of targeting, harassment, or restriction of journalists and media professionals.
