The Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Sudan, Pekka Haavisto, arrived in Port Sudan to hold meetings with a number of government officials and political leaders as part of ongoing efforts to explore ways of addressing the Sudanese crisis.
During his official visit, Haavisto is expected to meet with representatives of the Sudanese government, political forces, members of the diplomatic corps, and United Nations agencies to discuss recent developments and ways to support efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability.
This marks Haavisto’s second visit to Sudan since his appointment by the United Nations as the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Sudan.
Meanwhile, the United States continues to push for a humanitarian ceasefire that would allow the delivery of aid to those affected by the conflict and help pave the way toward ending the fighting.
