The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported the displacement of 11,630 people from the areas of Kabum, Markandi, and Um Labasa in South Darfur as a result of clashes between the Beni Halba and Salamat tribes between 4 and 6 June 2026.
According to the organization, those affected fled to locations within Kabum locality, as well as to areas in Nyala North, Ad Al-Fursan, Nyala South, Reheid Al-Birdi, and Shattaya localities in South Darfur.
The report noted that approximately 350 people had already been displaced on 30 May, followed by another 1,520 people on 4 June 2026.
The clashes between the two tribes erupted in late May and resulted in an unspecified number of deaths. Several parties have since appealed to both communities to exercise restraint, prioritize dialogue, and bring an end to the fighting.
