Sudanese Refugees in Chad Face Food and Healthcare Shortages

Chad – Mashawir

Sudanese refugees in Chad are enduring extremely difficult conditions due to shortages of food and healthcare services amid a decline in humanitarian assistance.

In this context, Fatima Omar, who is residing in a transit camp, told Mashawir that “the majority of Sudanese refugees are facing severe humanitarian hardships that are no less difficult than the circumstances that forced them to flee. Children and pregnant women are suffering from malnutrition.”

She added, “People here have no food. The only support we receive comes from residents of Tina, and refugee families arriving in this border town find only very limited international humanitarian assistance.”

Fatima explained that “the only source of food comes from donations provided by other refugees, some of whom arrived recently, while others came years ago during an earlier conflict in Sudan.”
