Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President on Arab and African Affairs, said he had strongly urged the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a phone call to refrain from any actions that could endanger civilians in and around the city of El Obeid.
He added, “We are deeply concerned by reports indicating that the RSF and allied forces are mobilizing troops, increasing the risk of attacks against civilians and the potential commission of mass atrocities in El Obeid.”
Boulos noted that Sudan is experiencing a devastating humanitarian crisis, warning that an RSF assault on the city could result in mass atrocities.
El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, has been under siege for months by the RSF, which has been engaged in a war with the Sudanese Armed Forces since April 2023.
