The Chair of the Coordination Committee of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council, George Katrougalos, outlined patterns of violations committed during the conflict in Sudan, including attacks on civilians and conflict-related sexual violence.
He stressed that all parties to the conflict are obligated to comply with international human rights law and international humanitarian law, emphasizing the need to hold those responsible for violations accountable.
Katrougalos also called on member states and influential parties to take urgent action to protect civilians and ensure unhindered humanitarian access.
Meanwhile, Germany called for support for the Berlin Principles and the efforts of the Quad Mechanism—comprising the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt—alongside the Five-Party Group, which includes the United Nations, the European Union, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and the League of Arab States, describing these initiatives as credible pathways toward a peaceful resolution of the Sudanese crisis.
