Volunteers Provide Emergency Shelter Materials to Displaced Families in El Obeid

El Obeid – Mashaweer

Volunteers have launched the distribution of plastic tarpaulins to 70 displaced families living in a displacement site in El Obeid, North Kordofan State, as part of efforts to support conflict-affected households and help them prepare for the challenges of the upcoming rainy season.

The camp hosts internally displaced people from various parts of South, West, and North Kordofan, including families from Kadugli, Dilling, Al-Hammadi, Al-Debeibat, Lagawa, and several villages across North Kordofan.

This marks the initiative’s second intervention at the camp. A previous project focused on providing safe drinking water, while the current effort aims to meet the urgent need for tarpaulins to protect displaced families from seasonal rains.

Sheikh Ali Abu Madina, head of the initiative, told Mashaweer that the project was made possible through support from people originating from North Kordofan State who are living in Ireland. The initiative was implemented under the supervision of camp officials from the Humanitarian Aid Commission and in coordination with the camp’s organizing committee.

He affirmed that the initiative will continue to carry out humanitarian interventions based on the most urgent needs of displaced communities.

For his part, displaced resident Ali Saleh told Mashaweer that humanitarian organizations and charitable donors should provide additional assistance to displaced families, particularly shelter materials such as tarpaulins and other essential supplies, to help them cope with the rainy season and the worsening humanitarian conditions.

He added that displaced people face severe hardship during the rainy season, when their needs increase significantly, particularly for food, medicine, and basic means of protection from the harsh weather.
