Five-Party Mechanism Invites Sudanese Political Groups to Consultations in Addis Ababa

The Five-Party Mechanism on Sudan has invited a number of Sudanese political groups to participate in consultative meetings in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

According to sources, the mechanism will hold separate closed-door meetings with the invited participants between July 29 and July 31 to discuss ways of improving coordination among political groups and to hear their views on the participation of various stakeholders in the political process.

The sources said that those invited include the Democratic Bloc, the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC), the Civil Democratic Alliance of the Revolution Forces (Somoud), the National Movement Forces, the Coordination of National Forces, as well as other political groups.

The Five-Party Mechanism comprises the United Nations, the European Union, the League of Arab States, the African Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). For several months, it has been working to bridge differences among Sudanese parties and support efforts aimed at ending the war and resuming the political process.
