Volunteers have launched a free medical initiative at the “Mili” camp for Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad, with support from the German-Sudanese Charity Association. The initiative aims to improve refugees’ access to healthcare services and ease the financial burden on families affected by displacement.
The first day of the initiative witnessed a large turnout of refugees who benefited from a range of free medical services, including medical consultations, examinations, diagnostic tests, and the provision of medicines.
Zaher Hamouda, a member of the Sudanese Volunteers Organization, told Mashaweer that “the first day marks the beginning of the initiative,” noting that “the medical days will continue over the following two days to receive more patients and provide free medical services to camp residents.”
Hamouda urged refugees to take advantage of the remaining days of the initiative and visit the designated location to access the available medical services.
Meanwhile, Ali Azraq, a refugee at the camp, told Mashaweer that “the initiative represents an important intervention given the refugees’ growing need for healthcare and medicines.” He noted that “providing free treatment helps ease financial burdens that families struggle to bear under the difficult conditions of displacement.”
Azraq called for such initiatives to continue and expand their reach to include as many refugees as possible, particularly children, women, and elderly patients.
