The Humanitarian Response Room in Rahed Al-Bardi locality, South Darfur State, has launched the “Safe Space for Women” project as part of its efforts to strengthen women’s protection and support women’s issues. The initiative aims to provide a safe environment where women and girls affected by the war can access support and assistance in an atmosphere of privacy and respect.
Room member Umm Salama Mahmoud described the initiative, in comments to Mashaweer, as reflecting the room’s commitment to women’s issues, supporting their participation in society, and strengthening their ability to confront humanitarian and social challenges. She said this would contribute to building a safer and more cohesive community.
She confirmed that the room would continue implementing humanitarian and development initiatives and projects that respond to the needs of local residents, with particular attention given to the most vulnerable groups.
For her part, psychologist Munira Abdullah told Mashaweer that “providing safe spaces for women and girls affected by the war is an important step in helping them express their needs and access support in an environment that respects privacy and safety.”
She added that “these spaces can help reduce the psychological and social pressures faced by women and strengthen their ability to cope with the effects of war, while also raising awareness about protection issues and supporting women in accessing available services.”
